Up for sale is a very cool and unique 1930s Kay KayKraft Style A Venetian in Sunburst. This example has a pronounced V shaped neck, ornate floral design, tort guard and trapeze tail piece. Cosmetically this example is in excellent condition but playability wise it is in poor / fair condition with fairly high action. It plays from frets 1-3 and is fairly high from then on. If lower actions is desired a neck reset would be needed. Model info is below.

INFO:

• The Body: KayKraft Style A or Style B Venetian (two-point asymmetrical body with an arched top and an arched back).
• The Neck: Standard "Spanish-style" fretted neck (not a lap steel) with a 1930–1931 style slotted headstock.
• NO patented adjustable wingnut neck.
  Kay intentionally manufactured a parallel line of Venetians with traditional, glued-in dovetail neck joints.
  • The Budget "Catalog" Strategy: Building the internal metal bracket, routing the heel, and installing the bolt mechanism was expensive. To hit lower price points for Depression-era department store catalogs (like Spiegel or regional distributors), Kay built stripped-down versions using a standard fixed neck
• The Top/Decal: Multi-colored tropical "Floral and Rising Sun" waterslide stencil surrounding a round soundhole.
• The Origin: An unbranded, contract-built batch made by Kay in Chicago, destined for a major 1930s mail-order catalog like Spiegel, or distributed through a regional music conservatory network.
