A 1979 McKinley Joe Maphis Virginian Acoustic in Natural finish.
If you don't know who Joe Maphis is then you may want to study up on him. One of the hottest acoustic guitar players of the 50s and 60s. If it had strings, he could play it. Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash so admired Maphis that they made space in the Cash/Carter family plot in Hendersonville, TN, so Joe could be buried next to his boyhood guitar idol, Mother Maybelle Carter. There's so much more to Maphis' fascinating life we could tell, but we'll let you discover it for yourself if you're interested.
This guitar was made in 1979 in tribute to Joe Maphis and was customized for Bill Minick whose name is emblazoned in the fingerboard. Beautiful Abalone rosette and binding. Nicely made guitar in Very Good condition. Includes thinline-style internal pickup.
