Metal meets Martin with the OM Mikael Åkerfeldt—a limited-edition acoustic that brings a darker twist to a Martin classic. Designed in collaboration with the Opeth frontman and progressive metal icon, this signature model features a torrefied spruce top paired with a dramatic three-piece back of Guatemalan rosewood and an East Indian rosewood wedge.

It’s also the first traditional build to feature Martin’s Low Profile Velocity neck—sleek, fast, and designed for players who favor the feel of an electric. A high-performance taper and full 25.4" scale length offer room to move, while the ebony fingerboard inlaid with black mother-of-pearl Roman numerals adds a shadowy, personal touch that’s uniquely Mikael. VTS-treated spruce and Golden Era scalloped X-bracing provide vintage warmth and responsiveness, while black Liquidmetal® bridge pins enhance sustain and clarity.

European flamed maple binding and bold herringbone trim complete the look. “Is this the best guitar I’ve ever played?” Mikael asked. “Including the ones in your museum? I believe so.” Limited to just 74 guitars, each includes a custom stainless-steel label and Harptone case. It's something bold and unexpected from Martin, shaped by one of metal’s most creative minds.

Martin's Vintage Tone System (VTS) is a proprietary torrefaction-based treatment that accelerates the aging of spruce tops and braces, mimicking the tonal qualities, appearance, and even scent of Golden Era Martin guitars from the 1930s. This process alters the wood's molecular structure by removing moisture, resulting in enhanced resonance, projection, and openness right from new, without decades of play.
