The Gibson Custom Collector’s Edition 1958 Korina Flying V is a spot-on re-creation of the iconic, space-age solidbody electric guitar from its first production year. As desirable as the “V” is now, it may surprise you to learn that the model got off to a rocky start. Just 81 were shipped that first year — and it didn’t take off until guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix and Dave Davies of the Kinks started playing them in the latter half of the ’60s. As a result of its newfound popularity, the Flying V made it back into regular production in the mid-’70s and it has remained in Gibson’s lineup ever since. Handcrafted from high-grade Korina (African limba) for the body and neck, as well as solid Brazilian rosewood for the hide-glue-fit fingerboard, every detail of the 1958 Korina Flying V Collector’s Edition is 100% historically accurate. Spec’d with premium, vintage-flavored Custombucker pickups, this is as close as you can get to an original ’58 V — even the included hardshell case is period-correct.
